She was also instrumental in Tri-City Medical Center receiving accreditation for its Breast Cancer Center by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). These programs ensure the full continuum of cancer care from prevention through survivorship or end-of-life care and quality of life. She has been on the Foundation’s committee for the annual fundraising Gala for over ten years; she chaired the Golden Anniversary Ball in 2011. She has volunteered for the American Cancer Society (ACS) and ran the ING Marathon in New York City to raise money for the ACS. She also won the Spirit Award for her work as a volunteer and for her fundraising efforts for the ACS. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Catalina Film Festival. Jennifer is a native of Houston, TX and has lived in CA over 30 years. She attended Jackson College of Ministries and majored in music. She also attended McNeese State University, LA. Throughout his career as an artillery officer, George served in a variety of command and staff positions at the artillery firing battery, battalion, and regimental levels. He commanded two firing batteries and First Battalion, 11th Marines. His staff assignments include tours with Amphibious Group Two, Headquarters Marine Corps, Joint Staff, and the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. After completing 30 years of service, he retired from active duty as the Chief of Staff for Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia in July 1999. Upon his retirement, he served the Marine Corps in a different capacity as the Membership and Marketing Director for the Marine Corps Association in Quantico, VA until July 2002, when he and Carolyn relocated to Oceanside, California. He has been instrumental in establishing McCarthy among the top green builders in the region, and helped lead the division’s use of leading technology on jobsites. McCarthy is recognized as one of the nation’s few true builders and is the country’s 8th largest domestic general contractor (Engineering News-Record, May 2014), the largest general contractor in California, and the second largest general contractor in San Diego. Having joined McCarthy in 1994, Betz has accumulated 20 years of expertise serving in various leadership roles for McCarthy’s Southern California Division, including most recently, executive vice president for the San Diego region. He is responsible for the financial performance and overall operations of McCarthy’s San Diego office, managing 100 employees and a yearly revenue of $250mm. He oversees client relations, estimating, office operations and personnel as well as integration of the company’s scheduling, safety and contracts departments. Born and raised in Southern California, Betz currently resides in North San Diego County with Lisa, his wife of 17 years, and their two children.
